Colorado High Country - July 2011

I live in a beautiful part of the world - taking advantage of the glories of the high country this year, the closest I'll ever come to a 'staycation'. While it should be summer up here, we had some very heavy late snows - it is still early spring in many places! Ice and snow still reign.

Sunrise was really an event to be missed this morning. Severely clear skies . . . HOWEVER, there's always SOMETHING to see when I'm in such a beautiful place - the ice on the tarn was phenomenal with the golden glow of the early light and the reflections from the surrounding peaks. And that severely clear sky played nicely as well!
Headed up to Kite Lake - bristlecone pines, extensive wildflowers, beautiful views. I couldn't get to the Lake - a snow plug blocking the road. On the way down, found this herd of cow elk and their babies. Wishing for a seriously long lens. . . .
Sighting of the morning - driving down off the mountain from where I'm staying, this little critter was taking his sweet time, meandering through the neighborhood!
Sign of the month - I missed the turnoff for my hike and ended up in Heeney . . . someone has a sense of humor! Right up there with Beaver Liquors in Beaver Creek! LOL!
